Adoption spans obstetric anesthesia and interventional pain management, as major integrated delivery networks begin groundwork for system-wide conversion
AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Flat Medical, a provider of precision needle access and guidance solutions for anesthesia, critical care, and pain management, today announced that more than 30 hospitals and pain management centers across the United States have adopted the EpiFaith® Smart Syringe in routine clinical practice.
The EpiFaith Smart Syringe is an FDA 510(k)-cleared, CE-marked device that provides real-time visual pressure feedback during the loss-of-resistance technique, giving clinicians an objective indicator when identifying the epidural space.
The milestone reflects adoption across two core clinical settings: labor and delivery units and interventional pain practices.
"Surpassing 30 hospitals and pain centers is a milestone, but only the beginning," said Mark Rabe, Vice President of North America, Flat Medical. "We are thrilled to see institutions choosing the EpiFaith Smart Syringe as part of their commitment to raising the quality of epidural care. Beyond individual clinicians, several major integrated delivery networks have begun the groundwork for system-wide conversion, from clinical evaluation to value analysis review. That signals a shift from early adoption to a new standard in epidural access. Our goal is to make objective, real-time visual feedback part of every epidural procedure in the United States."
Clinician Perspectives
"The EpiFaith Smart Syringe provides real-time visual feedback during loss of resistance, giving our anesthesia team an additional objective indicator when identifying the epidural space. In Labor & Delivery, where patient anatomy and epidural placement can be challenging, this added feedback can be particularly valuable. EpiFaith provides a novel, arguably more preferable technique for epidural catheter placement. Additionally, it supports greater confidence during epidural placement."
— Dr. Jay Kersh, an obstetric anesthesiologist practicing in the Greater Chicago area with 15 years of clinical practice and teaching experience
"The EpiFaith Smart Syringe has been a valuable addition to my interventional pain practice. The real-time visual feedback provides an additional level of confidence during epidural procedures while integrating easily into my existing technique. It is a simple, intuitive tool that can help support consistent and efficient epidural access for my pain patients."
— Vafi Salmasi, MD, an interventional pain physician practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializing in neuromodulation and minimally invasive spine procedures
