Applications have been invited for the Graduate Aptitude Test – Biotechnology (GAT-B), an examination to rank the participants for admission to the various DBT-supported PG programmes in participating institutions.
This examination was previously known as the Combined Entrance Examination for Biotechnology (CEEB) and conducted by JNU. From this year, the examination is being conducted by the Regional Centre for Biotechnology on behalf of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
The participating institutions will advertise and admit students as per their admission and selection process.
The list of Participating Institutions and DBT-Supported Programmes coming under the purview of GAT-B, including the detailed eligibility for admission is given at https://rcb.res.in/GATB/
The Programmes include M.Sc. Biotechnology (34 Institutions, 660 seats); M. Tech Biotechnology/Allied Areas (12, 240), M.Sc. Agricultural Biotechnology (8, 171); M.V.Sc. Animal Biotechnology (1, 10) and M.Sc. Allied Areas (7, 140) and with a total of 1221 Seats in 62 Courses.
Based on the rank as per the All India category-wise merit list generated through the GATB test, the student may apply to different DBT-supported programmes of participating institutions to secure admission as per their respective admission and selection process. All correspondence regarding admissions to the DBT-supported programmes may be sent to the respective participating institution. RCB/DBT will not be responsible for admission and selection process at participating institutions.
One who has either appeared or is due to appear in the final examination of their qualifying degree is eligible to apply, under the result awaited (RA) category as subject to the provisions stipulated in the notification.
GAT-B Examination: The examination will be of 3 hours duration to be conducted in a single shift on 30th June, 2020, at 57 examination centre across the country as per the list given at https://rcb.res.in/GATB/.
The question paper will have two parts. Part A will have 60 compulsory multiple choice questions of the level of 10+2 from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Each correct answer will carry one mark. Half mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Part B will have multiple choice questions of Bachelor’s level requiring thinking and analysis. There will be questions from basic Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology and allied areas as per syllabus notified. There will be 100 questions out of which the candidates will have to attempt 60 questions. Each correct answer will have a weightage of 3 marks. For each wrong answer one mark will be deducted. Application: Applications can be submitted at https://rcb.res.in/GATB/, latest by 18 June 2020. Application fee of Rs. 1000/- for General/ OBC candidates and Rs. 500/- by SC/ ST/ EWS/ Differently abled candidates is payable online.
Admit Card will be available from 25th June, 2020. Question Paper and Answer Key will be displayed on the Website on 2nd July, 2020. Representation of any discrepancy in Question paper and Answer Key will be accepted till 6th July, 2020. GAT-B rank will be declared on 20th July, 2020.
Studentship Support: All students admitted under the DBT-supported programmes of any participating institution will be paid monthly stipend as follows: (a) M.Sc. in Biotechnology & Allied Areas – Rs. 5000/- (b) M.Sc. in Agricultural Biotechnology – Rs. 7500/- (c) M.Tech/M.V.Sc. programmes – Rs. 12000/-. The continuation of stipend for the second year of the programme is subject to satisfactory progress of the student, to be certified by the participating institutions.
